I received a like on instagram a while back from a name i didn’t recognize so, naturally, I checked out their profile aaaaaaaaand my phone almost exploded in my hand. Bucket hats, varsity jackets, sliders, chinos, patchwork denim, workwear and trap music. The zenith of tombabery has been reached, if not exceeded, you guys. In one fell swoop, this Canadian Bad Ass did the damn thing. With the risk of sounding like a Britney fan getting hold of their first Michael Kors, I literally cannot even with Steph Hoff right now you guiiiiiizzz.
I always find it hard identifying with style bloggers. I feel like there are very few that get it. No disrespect to all you bloggers out there doing your thing but I’m not tryna see strappy heels and floral skirts in a blizzard. And if I see one more article where someone tries to explain to me the in’s and out’s of minimalism, i’m going to pitch my computer into the nearest body of water. Let’s keep it real now, c’mon son.
Steph does exactly that. She keeps it real, making the biggest statements in the most understated manner. Her subtle confidence is admirable – almost enviable – and her sense of humor never fails to make me chuckle. Being the bae that she is, Steph agreed to answer some Q’s for TATB…

How did you come to be doing what you’re doing today? Is this something you’ve always wanted to do?
When people say they wanted to be a doctor or a movie star ever since they were a little kid, I have a hard time relating. I never had a dream job. I just wanted to make lots of money and see the world. I live comfortably and do a lot of traveling for work. So I guess I’m living the dream—not the kind that looks like a Puffy video—still, I enjoy what I do and I’m good at it.

Your style is quintessentially Tomboy. I love it. Who/what/where does your inspiration come from?
My style is really influenced by my friends. I definitely surround myself with people that inspire me. The rest happens through osmosis. Shout outs to:
- Brian Mendoza – @brianmendoza
- Ryan Willms – @r_wilms
- Sid Singh – @siiiiiiiiid
- Sean Brown – @byseanbrown
- Becky Farronato – @beckyfarronato

Name some of your favourite brands and tell us why you dig them.
Engineered Garments: Ticks all my boxes: style, fit, quality, wearability and price point. I wear EG mostly everyday.
Margaret Howell: When I first moved to NYC I shared an apartment in Tribeca with Margaret’s daughter, Miriam—sweet girl with smart, simple taste. I hear Margaret is like that too. Her designs are perfectly timeless.
Acne Studios: I don’t mind to throw down on designer gear but if the quality doesn’t hold up, I won’t be back. I own about 10 pairs of Acne shoes.
Jil Sander: I like to imagine myself at 60 with a really severe look—very Polly Mellen-esque—Jil Sander suit and a stark white bob. I’m looking forward to wearing Jil when I’m all grown up.
Prada: My favorite part of ‘Dream of Life’ (the documentary on Patti Smith) is when she starts to explain what she is wearing, pointing at her shoes, pants and shirt saying: “Prada, Prada, Comme Des Garçons….’ Patti is my style icon. Prada, like Patti is effortlessly cool.
Nike: Cause I’m hood like that.

Um, can we say GOALS? Holy shit. I look forward to the day where I can turn up and discuss the current state of trap music with this very important lady. You can keep up with Steph’s antics via her website and Instagram and let her know I sent you! ❤
